I wonder..... I went on a search for Amethyst Herks yesterday,,, I found several places that were selling them,,, but they said they came from other places,,, other then Herkimer County NY, one place said Madagascar even... I thought Herks were suppose to only come from one place? Is that true? Maybe I am mistaken,,, Mike would probably know the answer to that question.... Either way those stones are PRETTTYYYYY!

I think Herkimer New York has the rights to the name, but the formation is found in several places. I need one of these!

So cool. The only herks I have seen came from NY and were clear, or has black spots. Awsome to learn this.

ok....so here is the scoop on "Amethyst" Herks.... they are small amethyst crystals with a herkimer shape / formation, not actually Herkimer Diamonds, but in the metaphysical world, people get away with alot of things when it comes to selling crystals...
true Herkimer Diamonds are found only in the Herkimer County area of NY State, all though there are several locations (Mexico, Tibet, Argentina, Arkansas and so forth) that crystals with a similar formation have been found but they are not the same silica / crystal make up, though they are VERY convincing. I have actually purchased some from these locations to compare since I have access to unlimited ammounts of the real Herks living where I do (i get all of mine from a private miner).
I have seen countless Tibetan and Argentina Quartz being sold as Herks on ebay and unfortunatley these people are marking these crystals to get the price that real herks command. Its a sad state of affairs. Anyone who has worked with Real Herks in energy work and metaphysical work can testify to the energy of Herks. Hope this clears some info up

I have some Tibetans that are very convincing, but yeah.....blows my mind, its the difference between $2 to $5 per carat and $0.30 per carat

Is there an actual physical/chemical difference between Herks and Tibetan or other Quartz crystals or is it just where they came from?

well, for me, i can actually see the difference between the two. it's a big difference to me. my tibetan quartz has almost the same size and shape, but there is a difference in the clarity and texture.
