i made a homemade incense blend tonight and thought i would share. since there's no home for it, i thought i would put it here. lol. (shrugs). this is a great earthy, sweet scent. all spices used are in dried form, not powder. that way it breaks down together, but is still chunky enough to sprinkle on a burning charcoal; similar to resin incense.
in your mortar, blend a thick stick of cinnimon broken into smallest tiny peices. (i've found that it's easiest to fold the stick in a paper towel and knocking it with the pestal works best, since it's so hard). add two - three pinches of crumbled white sage, two pinches of rosemary and a pinch or two of cedar(according to your like). blend well with pestal until half powder, half chunks. (less powder, than chunks). sprinkle by the pinch on hot charcoal. very cool scent:)

Great idea Aura,,, never thought of making my own... My extent into aromatherapy is quite small actually... I have learned a little about the scents and corresponding chakras for candle making but really thats about it, aside from "yummmy that smells good"! As you can see by my posts I know a lot about some things and a little about others,,, but I figure eventually someone will come along and educate me hehe.... Thats the master plan anyhow! I am so stuck on Nag Champa,,, I never even think of burning something else, in fact I ran out of some a while back and have a bunch of other incense that was given to me here and there and I just had a hard time burning it,,, so I only burned a little till I got more champa... I do have to say that Frankincense and myrrh comes in second to Champa but in my mind champa far surpasses even that! Maybe making some of my own would be cool though,,, thanks for the idea! What kind of charcoal do you use to put the power and chunks of the recipe on? Where do I find that?

i find a pack of it (charcoal discs) at my rock shop. they are about an inch across. ya just break it in half, light it until the whole thing sparks, then just sprinkle or set the resin on it and it burns. i agree on the nag champa! it's one of my faves. that, frankencense, myrrh, patchouli,..................alot of eathy scents i guess. my favorite resin blend though is sacred glen. oh man! it has several different pieces and scents in it that are awesome alone or together. that's one to look for. lol. i'm just crazy about incense though. he he he............

You know, I was preparing something like that. Of all the incenses I have had, and some dust all fall off into the glass container, I just got some charcoal and I wanted to see how it all smells together. Great idea with the cinnamon. That will add a little more substance to keep it burning..great idea.

well, i think it's actually kinda relaxing and therapudic to play with blends. me hubby don't like it too much because i have to test everything, right. so i have a burning charcoal sitting and i'm constantly testing this and that to see what the scent is like burning and he can't stand it. lol.....i know some things i've tried kinda stink, but most of it smells pretty good. gonna make some new stuff tomorrow, since i've gotten more cedar and pine dried out. look out hubby!!!

LOL Have fun making new scents my dear. I had never really thought of making my own incense. It's only been recently that I really started burning any....Star is making me a champa convert I think. Although recently I've found one that in similar in scent to champa, super hit and I really like that one -it's supposed to get rid of negative energy and bring in positive.

yes, girl, that's another of my favorites. lol. the sandalwood, nag champa, frankensence, myrrh, and patchouli. those are my main faves. they all seem related to me in scent, i suppose, so that's prolly why i'm drawn to those main ones. but hey, dragon's blood is TOO awesome. i love it lots, too! lol.

Aura.. what a neat idea! i think I have everything, but no cedar chips... I can get those in the bbq section of a store, right? Thats pretty neat!
Also, for those of you that love nag champa...
you know the tree air freshners? they don't usually sell this one at the stores.. you have to order it but it's worth it. It's called BOUQUET. I put one in alot of my books, in between my books, and linen closet etc... it smells like nag champa, and makes my books smell like ( the psychic bookstore)
I love them!
Hugs Janet

actually, i used dried cedar leaves..........if that's what ya can call em. lol. they aren't shaped like regular leaves, but that's what they are. i have a cedar tree here, so i asked the tree, then snipped off a small peice (a small peice yeilds alot of leaves), then i placed it, along with the pine needles, in the oven on like 300. evergreen leaves will take forever to dry, so it helps to actually set the stove on a semi-high level to dry them in time. then, i cut the leaves into small, usable peices. anyhoo, that turned into a ramble, didn't it? lol. that's how i use the cedar, though. lemme know how it goes for ya!!!
