What is the first experience you have had with Reiki? I love reading others stories about how they first learned about Reiki and what they thought of it... I have a story myself,,, if you guys want to hear!

My first experience with Reiki was several years ago when a friend of my Brothers sent Reiki to my Dad's hand.
He had severed a finger and had it replaced. Later wasn't getting enough circulation to it and the Doctor's worried he would have it removed.
The friend asked if he would like some Reiki for it... Dad was like sure. Long and short of it... Dad's finger looked "right" with in 4 days.
So when year's later after a Fibromyalgia diagnosis a friend asked if I wanted distance Reiki I was like "uhhhh sure I'll try anything once" and remembering how Dad got better I knew it would work.
I felt better with in a matter of DAYS!
There is so much more to the story but that's the short version and I must say my life has been forever changed since! Because after repeated treatments I got better and better and then wanted attunements of my own. (first with a local lady later more with Star which lead to a full blow Reiki addiction thank you very much! LOL!)

I was at a dog agility trial and a lady walked up to the person I was talking to and and asked him to do Reiki on her dog. The Jack Russell was moving stiffly. George held her in his lap for about 15 minutes with his hands moving over her body and she suddenly jumped down and started spinning in circles and jumping up and down. Needless to say, I was hooked! BTW--the dog's name was Star!  Fay |

I went on a retreat about healing touch that was offered at a Catholic retreat center near Boston. The woman leading the retreat is a Reiki Master and several other people one the retreat did Reiki and kept talking about it. I had no idea what it was. I signed up to have a treatment and was completely amazed by the sensation of the energy. Mostly what attracted me to Reiki was the idea of a spiritual path that you could have a direct experience of.

I want to hear you story too, Star. Since I have been interested in crystals and gemstones for over 25 or so years. I started adding to my collection, about 7 or 8 years ago, I was shopping at metaphysical stores. I kept seeing all sorts of other things and other spirituality stories But life again took over and about 3 years ago I was at a rock shop and started reading and talking to the owner about a number of things and I started opening up to more things. Being a big e-bayer and I like to check out other peoples shops, I kept seeing Reiki. And decided to pursue and see what it really was like. Hey, when things keep showing up, you need to listen eventually, right. Star was the one I picked to do my Usui I and I have been hooked on Reiki and Star. After the first experience, I loved the attunement. She invited me to her forum and that's basically it. And here we are sharing our experiences. Reiki really can help you make big changes, can't it?
My first Reiki session occured shortly after I had some minor-ish surgery in March 2004. One of my sisters had introduced me to Reiki several years earlier, and I hadn't given it much thought until my surgery.
Knowing my medical leave was almost over, I went to the local metaphysical shop and asked if anyone there did Reiki. I met a wonderful Reiki Master there, and my first session was scheduled. The first treatment wasn't nearly as spectacular as I expected it to be. I was new to Reiki, so I didn't know what to expect. I guess I was looking for something short term, a quick fix, but Reiki had other plans for me. LOL
Why did I go back to her if the first session wasn't all that exciting? It was that little voice that kept urging me on...in addition to a few things that the practitioner had said which made me wonder "How did she know that about me?" The second treatment was more wonderful than I could have imagined. That's when things really started to kick in. And after 3 months had passed, I was certain that I wanted to be attuned.
Shortly after my first two attunements, my life started to shift in every way. At first, it felt like the rug was pulled out from underneath me, but since then, it has lead to tremendous spiritual and personal growth, and my health has improved drastically. I am so grateful every one of my Reiki experiences, and I would not trade them for anything!

Hehe,,, I was going to share my experience from the beginning but I was feeling lazy and not feeling so inspired to write this long post, but I had the idea to start this thread so I just started it without spilling my story! It worked though because I love hearing other peoples Reiki stories.... Soooo here is mine.... Prologue hehehe- Ever since 7th grade I have been interested in the metaphysics. I had a 7th grade science teacher that allowed us to take a portion of her class on ESP, telepathy and other stuff like that... You know, sometimes in life you look back and see when the shift changed, and that was for sure that point,,, I wish I could contact my teacher now, she was so cool! Anyhow I didn't learn of reiki then, but that started me reading and reading and reading EVERYTHING I could about metaphysical topics,,, I was often thought of a "weird" in school or to my friends because I liked that sort of thing but you know Ms Stutt (my science teacher) got that spark going and I couldnt help it. Mostly when I was young it was about astrology, esp and telepathy... Well, I grew a little,, and when I was about 17 I was taken to this store called the Magickal Forrest,,, it was my Heaven here on earth,,, it was the first metaphysical bookstore I had ever been in.... Needless to say I went there constantly and read a lot more stuff... That was another point of ohhhh wow,,, look at all I dont know, sort of thing! Well they had Reiki circles there, every Wednesday... I used to go to them constantly, I LOVED it so when I was 19 I received my first Usui I attunement from a lady at that store. I loved it but it was really expensive back then,, and being a single mommy and so young I just couldnt afford to go to level II. It bummed me a little but after a few years I was able to take Usui II and then another year or so after that Usui III.... It's weird how it happened, because often times people get into Reiki because someone needs it or has a plan for it. I really didnt have a plan or need it for anything, I was just in love with all of that sort of stuff so I was happy to be doing it... It wasnt until I injured my low back by falling down those stairs that I decided to really focus my energy on teaching others Reiki, which was in 2002. After I was first attuned to Usui I, I knew I wanted to own my own store one day and teach others Reiki, but it was always "one day" well that one day came when I fell and hurt myself... I knew I wanted that but I had no idea how I was going to go from being a bartender in this nice restaurant to my bookstore and teaching Reiki... I seriously look at my injury as divine intervention. The money for the job was good and again being a single mom who never went to college it was the best I could do for money at the time. So I couldnt have quit, and I liked it, I like people so it was nice to talk to people and communicate with co workers and friends that came to see me... The Angels had a different idea for me though... They knew what was in my heart and they said, ok, since you wont listen,,, BAM,,, we will MAKE you! And I fell.... I couldnt have said that when it happened but looking back I am sure that was it... My life completely changed, went from being independent, having a nice home with my kids to being in a lot of pain, no money, and moving in with my family,, it was really like I was stripped of everything I knew and had to be with just myself to learn what that was like... Talk about a turn around.... But in that I have gained so much,,, I have built my online business and have started the life of what I knew I wanted when I first started working with Reiki, but had no idea how to do that... It really is something how it happened to me, so many synchronicities that I totally say was divine intervention... Looking back I wouldnt have it any other way though, struggles and all because through all those struggles I also found compassion and healing for myself and others... Ok,,, now I am all... hehehehe Look at the can of worms I opened! I love it! (((hugs))) |

Star that is a great story. You definitely do have a calling (everyone on this board does I think). I hope soon you will be free of the pain too.

You know Christine, you are right. We have talked about this before and everyone here brings different things to the board. I have learned so much here and hope I have been able to give some thing to think about too.

I first met reiki back in 1996...I was in a play and a woman there did reiki and told me about it. I sort of shrugged it off, being 16 and all  Before the end of the play, I was given a beautiful card with a gorgeous picture of a goddess on it and have kept it. It's so beautiful. Fast forward to 2007: February, I start thinking about reiki. Um...what? I hadn't thought about it in years, and didn't know what it was. Dismissed idea, continued on...then suddenly I can't stop thinking about reiki. I have never even had a treatment before, don't know what it is, and am so drawn to it I find a teacher to attune me and 'shut myself up' already haha! Teacher attunes me and I feel the power of reiki.... I look on the wall... She has the picture of the goddess, framed on the wall. That really was amazing. |

If I remember correctly I heard about Reiki in a chatroom on yahoo, back in 2000, always been interested in metaphysical since I was a child. Especially the hands on healing..It became a desire after 9/11/01....I had a dream of having a blue stoned headband placed on my head on 9/13/01, and I had my first Usui Reiki attunement on 9/12/02 and my Reiki 3, 2/26/04. I have also been attuned to Universal Reiki and Violet Flame Reiki  my grandmother was a natural healer, she believed in the laying of hands, like the Rosicrucians, hope I spelled that right  To a speedy recovery Star  much love and healing light.. ayah asher ayah X 3 Kathy |

Well the first time i met reiki was with this crazy kinda lady, she waved her hand around when she sad, reiki knows everything, after that i said no, i don't want reiki, then suddenly a freind of mine became a teacher and needed someone to practise on, then after a lot of talking from hes side i said ok you can practise on me. and i have never looked back, i love it, happy becasue he maid me do it ;D

I love all of your stories... They are soo amazing! Give me goose bumps... I had not heard of Reiki before. I have worked as a nurse and always felt that traditional medicine was missing the point, by treating symptoms and not always finding the cause. I knew that there was something else. I feel that Reiki can get to the core and have seen some amazing healing! I was almost finished with my massage schooling and started to notice that I was feeling an energy from the palms of my hands. What I didn't know, was that in another classroom at the school, Reiki was being taught. It was offered in January 2004, i took the Reiki I class and felt like I had connected to something i had been searching for... I love the energy work and cannot seem to learn enough about it and the many forms available. Reiki truly is a teacher and I have been a willing student to learn. It has enhanced my spiritual growth and I have been much healthier since Reiki has become a part of my life! I so appreciate all of you and am learning so much from this forum. {{{Huggs}}}} Willow |

hmm my first experience with reiki was when i had a reading done by a psychic and she said you have purple aura arround your hands and should consider reiki, so i asked her to do a heal and when she did i didn't half feel her connect its almost as if someoen had woken up my energy field from then i took my level one and had a limp in my foot which i think i may have broke when i was a kid and it decided to heal it, lvl 2 i started comming out of my shell after being a introvert for all my life and my back started straightening itself then my lvl 3 i am having more and more wierd expeirences, for example i said quite innocently "i have had enough of this overwieight body" and the next day i had a enegy line put at my neck almost showing a diff energy in my head than in my body, god that felt wierd. and god im really enjoying distant heals with all the diff feelings im getting in my body and the feed back im getting.
Also with reiki its as if someone taken me and cleansed all the rubbish out of me ive never been so energetic and confident in all my life.
Starting to wonder why i didn't plan this before i came down def gonna make sure i find it on my next innings.
