Ok, so I am so jealous of all of you all with the beautiful gardens, so here's my little bit of planting. It's early yet for lots of things, but I planted lots of pansie cause they are frost resistent. Ginger, our German Sheppard Our cats watching me through the screen door. From the left is is Leroy, Herbie, Spree, and Gracie in the back. Sorry about the pic quality, I used my new phone, which apparently sucks! Anyway, It is exciting for me to have flowers growing! I don't plant in the ground because our lawn guys are dummies and weed wack everything off, so just pots for me. Kristi

they are simply beautiful Kristi. And my dear you're talking to the girl with a deck garden just starting, at least you put yours in pots outside on a lawn - my landlord is so slack no one would ever see them cause they never mow and when they do everything goes! heck, we lost Adara in the tall grass last year playing ball...lmao And your fur kids are just wonderful! I love how Herbie is looking in on things...teehee

I know how you feel Kristi. Here in Indiana my Grandma (Gramma) told me the "rule of thumb" on planting is to wait until after Mothers day.
Most times people will plant on Mothers day with their family's. It's been a tradition in my family for years. You buy Mom a plant (or hanger type plant depending on weather) and help plant (or hang the hanger deals them around porches and patio's) on Mothers day.
So I just got some planting done last weekend. The boys got me some Aster, Gerber Daisy's and a Lilly. I'm worried about a couple of Lilly's we planted as it may have been too wet and too soon for them. We'll see. My Herb garden from last year is doing really well. Hopefully I'll have pics of these later in the year.
I Love your pansy's and the pics of your babies are so very cute. Ginger is an adorable name.
XO's Elaine

I love the pansies!! soooo cute! and your kitties,,, they are adorable too! I always wanted a black and white tabby,,, but none ever came to me not yet!
Dont worry Kristi,,, im the one who gets to be jealous of everyone else for a few months,,,, I cant grow squat in the summer... I had to put my indoor tomato plant outside because it wasnt getting enough light, even with the grow light, it wasnt enough,,, now its growing like a weed! I am glad cause after that im done until September or October and I have to garden vicariously through my northern friends till then! My flowers usually make it through the summer, but no veggies do,,, and were in a major drought so its sooooo dry here! We need rain so badly!

I wanna garden. Kristi, I love your pansies, one of my favs too. I should go buy some pots and put them around my deck. I can handle that task. See you all are getting me back into this and I am really glad. Who knows, maybe I'll be taking pics.
Miss E. that is the rule here absolutely. No plants before Mother's Day. I have seen a lot of people this week working on their gardens. I'll help Diana this weekend, and she can help me next..
Do my roses count? They come up every year with very little maintenance.

Of course roses count, silly girl!! I consider myself a gardener and I dont even have any roses!! Guess thats cause you and Aura have them FOR me hehehe I think you should go get some pots and plants,,, and if you want I can send you some of my day lily bulbs,,, those would look too cute in pots on your deck!

I have a few pots in the garage, but they are out everywhere now. I think the pots are a great idea. I have soil, so all I need is the seeds or bulbs. I'm glad you brought this idea up. Stacey just power washed our deck and it looks so much better. What better way to show it off than put some nice colorful plants out there, right.
Question for those in the midwest. My mom used to put certain plants in the basement during winter months and then put them back out in the summer. She would cover them up and that's it. Have you ever heard of this? If you have, do you know what plants you can do this with?

a few herbs that you can do it with that I learned this winter are chives and sage actually. I was really impressed they survived the winter outside in pots, but they're growing like crazy again now. I'm gonna replant'em though.
