Anyone have suggestions for help with the side effects of Chemo? My mom is starting on Monday, and I want to find some ways to help her with nausea, fatigue, hair loss, whatever. Kristi

My mom's doctor recommended acupuncture for the nausea. Of course, I have heard about pot being helpful too, but really don't know. Mom said the loosing of the hair was the worst thing, so she wore terry cloth turbans around the house and some toboggan other times. After that, she went to wigs although never really happy with them. So I would recommend getting a really good wig maker, and take a picture with you, to get one the right color and style.
Hope this helps...

REIKI! I think there have even been some scientific studies that have shown Reiki lessened side effects of chemo. I have a number of clients who had Reiki regularly during chemo and did great with it.
In addition to receiving Reiki from you, your mom might be able to have Reiki treatments in the hospital...a lot of hospitals have volunteers who will provide free mini-Reiki treatments to cancer patients.

i'm not too sure on this one, other than what these ladies said. a friend of mine had a very serious bout with cancer, but her chemo only thinned her hair, luckily, instead of it all coming out and the radiation was directed straight to her lower half, so it didn't fully affect her entire body. that was the difference in her treatment and so many others. sometimes it can be done that way, other times not. i know reiki will be coming!!!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. We are doing lots of Reiki on my mom, 4 of us are Reiki Masters, and we do tandem sessions. She is also a Reiki practitioner, so she works on herself as well. I wish we had Reiki in hospitals here, but we don't. I had wondered about accupuncture, I think I will talk to her about that. She has already ordered a wig and some hats because her doctor told her to expect her hair to fall out. It's weird because I think the way her doctor talks to her sets her up to believe the bad stuff is going to happen rather than giving her hope. Anyway, I am sure that lots of Reiki will help, and we just have to see how the chemo will affect her. ((hugs)) Kristi
