Spiders, spiders everywhere.....

So like normally I would be freaked out by spiders,,, I dunno why I just didnt really care much for them... But lately they have been EVERYWHERE!! I walked out my back door the other day and nearly walked into ones web,,, I was over my moms house and I was walking around her back yard by some palm trees and did the same thing, it was like inches from hitting me smack in my face! There has been several other occassions that spiders have been right there too lately...

Welll I walked out back this morning to go check on my few tomatos that havent ripened yet (this is NOT tomato season down here so home grow tomato's are not common these days) and what did I see? SEVERAL spiders! In fact one was HUGE and attached to what,,, my tomato plant! It was eating a huge bug or something too... So I took some pictures of them to share,,, they just looks cool huh?

I actually thought that this was cool, spiders weaving their creative webs, and the one mama one and the other babies that are just doing their things and starting their webs.... it just struck me as cool

I am thinking that the spider is a totem of mine and I need to learn more about her...

The Spider

Many stories exist about the weaver, Grandmother spider. She carried on her back the gift of fire in a basket that she wove and presented it to the people. In another story it is said that her web bound all things together and formed the foundation of earth..

These legends give the spider a link to the past and the future, birth and creation. When the spider crawls into our awareness it is asking us to rebuild the web of our life in accordance with the design the creator gave us.

Spiders differ from insects in having eight legs rather than six and in having the body divided into two parts rather than three. The number eight laid on its side is the symbol for infinity. The number two implies the union of two forces joined together. Together they equal ten. Drop the zero and you are back to the starting point of one. The hidden message of spider is unity. The study of numerology is beneficial for those who hold this medicine.

The construction of a web is linked to the geometry of creation. In the construction of an orb web the spider releases a sticky silken thread into the wind. If the breeze carries the thread to a spot where it sticks the first bridge is formed. Spider cautiously crosses the line reinforcing it with a second. This process continues until a frame is constructed in which the web can secure itself. Bridges serve as a link tying all things together and remind us of our interconnectedness to all life.

The spider shows us that the past, the present and the future are all interwoven. It awakens our intuitive creative senses and encourages us to design the fabric of our lives from our souls original intention. If you see a spider in its web, or creating a new one, pay attention. It symbolizes where you are in the weaving of your own destiny. A study of the medicine wheel and the four directions is helpful.

Because spiders are actually very delicate they embody the energy of gentleness. Spiders are not usually aggressive unless they are defending their lives. Moving forward in all situations with a gentle strength is a skill that often needs to be learned for those with this totem. In man, the bite of a poisonous spider symbolizes a death, rebirth process. Poison enters the nervous system and the body either transmutes it or falls victim to its venom and dies.

The spider signifies the tapestry of life. The web we weave is the reality we experience. Choosing the appropriate path is one of the lessons associated with this medicine.

For the two-legged beside whom Spider crawls, there will exist a depth of creativity that may manifest in any of a myriad of ways. Perhaps the talent is in writing prose that conveys depth of feeling and spirituality, or it may be the human counterpart is particularly skilled at creating beautiful and intricate jewelry that will often have an etheric quality to them, much like glimmering strands of a spider’s web.

Whatever channel this creativity flows through, it is a quality and gift that must be expressed and allowed the freedom to flow. If creativity is not acknowledged in the Spider individual, then a very necessary and integral part of their Life’s Purpose is being denied.

Wow, cool spider. I have to admit I'm scared of spiders because of a bad bite above my eye when I was a kid. I don't kill them though, just relocate....lol

What a beautiful spider. I know I said this already but I really think spider is telling you to keep weaving your creative web!

And Kristi maybe look deeper into your feelings about spider. Its' said that when we have a bad experience with nature (bites, growls or stings that seem scary) and feel a negitive emotion when relating to it. That this can be part of the shadow self that can be worked on. Spider may very well be your totem too! You might find you work really well with spider medicine if you understood it differently. Spider just took a route that didn't seem very friendly to communicate this with you.

I know this might sound backwards but I've heard of this happening with snake and wolf totems. Where it is the goal to help you work through fear in this incarnation.

I've had animals of the large cat family come to me in visions that dont seem very freindly (growling at me and my first reaction is fear) when I dove deeper into this I found they are a power animal for me and I needed to take that "energy" on for myself during my journey work.

YIKES......I don't do spiders.....I was bit by a Brown Recluse about 3 years ago....omg....it was yucky.I had to be on 2 different antibiotics and they had to use a syringe to pull the venom out!

I will check into the whole power animal totem.....Good call!

You wont believe this one,,, as some of you know I am traveling, well I was traveling to Michigan, I am here now,,, well we stopped last night in a hotel... first thing I do when I get in the hotel is go to the bathroom and what was there? yep a spider! It was a really clean and nice hotel too, so it wasnt like something I think was normal there... I didnt bother it either, I just said hi and thanks for showing up

When we were packing the car up this morning for the rest of out trip up here,,, there was another spider that was headed for my daughter, it was under her bag when she lifted it to put it in the trunk, she saw it and screamed! (She doesnt like spiders either) just as it jumped for her.... I thought,,, cool beans and she freaked lol!! My daughter is very creative like I am so I actually thought that was cool!

I totally agree. How cool are those pics. I'm not a big fan of spiders, but I also don't like to knock down the webs unless I have too. Sorry, my house and only I'll share some places.

The description of spiders and Annamere's interpretation are both awesome. There are a lot of people afraid of spiders and it now puts a completely different spin on their fears.

I was reading about the snakes. It reminded me, I was meditating and ask about my animal totems and one was the snake and other was a horse. My first thought was eeewww snake. But after I read it snakes are pretty cool.
