Sunday I went to an awesome workshop about the serpentine Goddess...the snake is actually a symbol of the divine feminine and was turned into an image of the devil by Western religions.
The woman who taught the class belly dances with snakes. She brought one of her pythons and we got to hold her. I love snakes anyway but this creature was so gentle had such a spiritual presence. Toward the end of the class we did a little belly dancing with the snake...she would wrap around your waist and hold on while you moved.
My friend that I went with is so excited about it that she is looking into buying a pet snake. I'm not sure I'm up for that as they live 30 years, but what a cool animal. Definitely had a very soothing energy!

I'm with aura in the phobia department. It sounds like an amazing experience, though. Cool beanies!!!
On another note, what's a shadow totem?

Aura, that's interesting about the snake being your shadow totem. I've wondered about the snake being my shadow totem as well. I dream of snakes quite often and they aren't the warm/fuzzy type of dreams. In the last several dreams of them, I've either killed the snake(s) or stared them down. A Shadow Animal Totem are those totems that test us. They have great power for us but will put us through tests before they will let their power work with and for us, instead of against us. In all of nature there is prey and predator. In the spiritual or Shadow World there is the same. A Shadow Animal Totem is one that initially you fear. The Shadow Totem often represents inner fears that you must overcome. You may have even been attracted by the animal; a very vivid test to see if you are ready to accept the power of the animal totem. Until you face the fears of the Shadow Animal Totem it's powers will work against you, not letting you soar high. When you overcome the fear of the Shadow Animal Totem you bring it into the Light World as a Spirit animal totem and they become one of your most powerful Animal Totems. Your goal with a Shadow Totem is to learn the lessons and incorporate that animal into your life. If you are scared by something over and over then you still have not accepted the lesson that animal has for you.

Thank you Debbie! I have never heard of Shadow Totems before. I don't know what mine is but I am extremely afraid of all insects and creepy crawlies in general.

Very cool about the totem. The snake's energy was very powerful and very female. I love reptiles but when I first saw the snake I even thought, oh, no this is going to be weird, but it was really cool.
And not to give anyone the willies, but I had a cool experience with the snake where she "crowned" me, which is when you they start to move up to the top of your head/hair. It's said to be an experience that helps release the Kundalini.
