well, i've helped a few folks work on their altars so i'll share some words. the altar cloth can be anything that appeals to you, i think. i change mine every once in a while, just to keep the energy fresh, ya know. i'd say what goes on the alter are the more representative parts that you'll want to concentrate on. i do a similar thing, actually. like one of my altars has a large cathedral on it and inside the cathedral i have certain objects that represent different aspects of my philosophy. i have a buddha coin, a goddess charm, a cross, flowers for nature, hindu mala, etc. anything that i feel a connection to goes there. on another altar i have chinese prayer beads on one side and a catholic rosary on the other. i guess my point is that the alter itself can be 'set up' any way you like; it's the little things that you add to it that bring other elements in or pay respect to other religions. ok, i'm beginning to ramble, but if you'd like any further advice, i have plenty on this subject. lol.

I agree with feary, go with what feels right to you and what you feel represents your reflections, needs, whatever it maybe.

Our skin color could be black, white, yellow, etc but we have a common color that bind us all. Our blood are RED.
This could perhaps make it as a universal symbolic color to signify we are all ONE.
An extract of a passage I got on the aura seen on Buddh'a head
The Buddhist flag is a modern creation it was jointly designed by Mr J.R. de Silva and Colonel Henry S. Olcott to mark the revival of Buddhism in Ceylon in 1880. It was accepted as the International Buddhist Flag by the 1952 World Buddhist Congress.
Colonel Olcott designed a flag from the six colours of the aura that he believed shone around the head of the Buddha after His Enlightenment.
The first five stripes of the flag are of five colours.
Blue: Universal Compassion Yellow : The Middle Path Red : Blessings White : Purity and Liberation Orange : Wisdom

What good ideas.... I have little "altars" set up in different places in my home... One dedicated to Angels, one to Fairies, one to my grounding and work (cause I can float off sometimes lol), a healing altar, relationship, creativity,.... well you get the idea... Depending on which altar I am talking about I will place different things in them,,, the work one has all my black and earthy stones, it helps me stay focused and yep its in the middle of my L shaped desk... The healing one I have a healing crystal grid on, and other healing crystals. I also have candles the colors of the chakras there,,, for a balance. The Fairy altar has all things fairy including statues of fairys, potions made by faerys(i know some human-fairies hehe) crystals that relate to fairies and lots of color! The Angel grid has statues of angels, my personal chakra stones (I use a different set on clients then I do myself) a few pictures of loved ones etc... The relationship/heart altar has my crystal pink grids and other love related objects, the creativity altar has things to spark my imagination, oils, bells creativity crystals, etc..... You you can like do this, where you have lots of places in your home that celebrate different aspects or you can do one place that contains them all. I think the most important thing is to do what FEELS right... I also practice feng shui so I coordinate whee I place the altars in my home to what their meaning is... Most of all, keep it simple and build on that. I really look at my home as an "altar" and sacred place where I live and spend the majority of my life so in reality I like to keep things all over and lively,,, if that makes sense... I would love to see pics when you get stuff going!
