I came upon a great book called This I Believe . It is a collection of personal philosophies of remarkable men and women. It's based on the NPR series of the same name. It used to be a radio show in the 1950's. There are 80 essays from famous people, including Einstein, Bill Gates, Newt Gingrich, Oscar Hammerstein, Helen Hayes, Helen Keller, and many more. Some of the essays are from the 1950's and some are from today. I found it very inspirational and moving to read this collection of essays. It's inspired me to write my own "This I Believe" essay. Turns out, there's a format for it! There is a website called www.thisibelieve.org where you can submit your own essay. I am proposing that we could do it here, somewhere in the forum. I'm not quite sure where it would be appropriate to place a collection of our own personal beliefs. I like the idea of the proposed format: tell a story, be brief, name your belief, be positive, be personal. If anyone has read the book or wants to read the book, there is a discussion guide at the end of it. I would love to discuss it with the group. I wrote a very very rough draft of my own essay and I would like to post it here and see what you all think, if anyone thinks this is a good idea. So...what do you all think?

You'll be glad you did, Janet. This is the perfect book for busy people because each essay is a page or two. So you don't have to worry about finding your place in a story's plot if you should need to put the book down for a week or two, as busy people often do. Enjoy! Let me know what you think or which essays were your favorite.

Yea I need some book time too.... I actually think I need a vacation LOL.... But only for like a few days... I have been thinking about having a day of silence actually, no speaking, no emails, no board, no communicating in any form like that... Just me and my thoughts and my regular day. I would of course have to do this a day when the kids arent here,,, but I think I would like it... I will check this out though,,, I would love to read your essay Karen,,, might inspire some of us to write our own ((hugs))

I would love to post it, actually. It might help me clarify what I want to say and perhaps submit it to the website.
This is a great book to read if you don't want to get too invested or involved in a plot. Like I said, each essay is a page or two. Simple, sweet and meaningful. I have taken a long time to read it because I want to consider the thoughts of each writer before moving on to the next.

I finally got a chance to get this far down the topics....this is a really cool site, but looks like it takes more than just a glance. I'll check it out more. But it looks great.

Maybe Star could give your idea it's very own board?
