here is something else that i thought was awesome.... i have only used really thin wire in copper, like how thick do you think the gage of this suncatcher would be, any ideas Kristi? Do they do copper wire in gages anyhow? I forget.... I have some balls like this that I have around the house for feng shui,,, i would love to make them into suncatchers like this and correspond the stones to go with the suncatchers,,, i have a few 2 hearts, 2 balls like that one, a bagua shaped one,, and a star (of course had to get a star!),,, they are just hanging on ribbons though.... i would like to play with them in copper, silver is so expensive,,, maybe one of them in silver,,, if i played with the copper and liked it.... what do ya think? Etsy is inspiring,,, i love just looking at stuff there!

we must be looking at the same stuff, lol. Saw this one too. And copper does come in gauges. I bought some at the hardware store this summer and got some odd looks for it. Oh well. I wanted it to pound it out and maybe do some garden stakes and stuff with...this is a cool idea too.

would have to be 16-18 gauge to hold up, copper is really soft.......I use 18 usually

it's probably pounded to stiffen it up

the part with the stones is probably 20 gauge, but the design at the top would have to be heavier

ok i am going to have to get some copper and play with it now.... i think i have 22 gage wire,,, i forget... i remember what it was that i was confused about now,,, sterling silver comes in hard, half hard and dead soft,,, i dont think copper does... but depending on what you wana do with silver you can use any of those three....
so what do you hammer it with? a rubber mallet?

rubber or leather or metal mallet and a pounding block or anvil..............copper is all the same hardness

ohhhhh ok, so you dont actually hit the copper with the mallett, you put a block or anvil over it? i never thought of that! it makes sense though because it keeps from scarring the copper....
i know with silver, if its not stiff enough you can also run it through some chain nose ribber tip pliers and stiffen it up, but i never thought about how to hammer it,,,, i now have to go to the store and get me some more copper hehehe

no, you put the copper on the anvil to pound. Rubber or leather mallets don't mar the copper. Sometimes you want hammer marks, so you use the metal hammer. Kristi

How cool. And adding sun catchers for cars and the window catchers with the little sucktion cups...what a great idea. Those kind of earrings are really in style too...

hehehe funny Joanie!! I am glad you got them if they made that much of an impression on you! I have been doing a lot of playing with wire these days, but no ear cuffs yet! One never knows though!
I get my beads from all over, some places on eBay and some other websites, even local stores, Joanne fabrics and Michaels... What about you Joanie, do you make jewelry too?

For a while I was making a lot of polymer clay beads, but I would like to go more naturale,so to speak... Can't stand the fumes when they are cooking in the oven!
