thought this was interesting. now, i personally, cannot live on juice, alone; not even for a day, but this is interesting all the same. ================= Juice Recipes Juice fasting is a great way to restore your system to health and to lose weight at the same time.
Often your body tells you it is hungry when you really just need to drink some water, so drink one of these juices every time you feel hungry. This way you're staying healthy and not engaging in unnecessary binge eating.
I just list the ingredients below - all you need to do is throw them in the blender and add some water! Feel free to change the ingredients, the most important thing is to find recipes that suit you and that you are comfortable drinking.
Vegetable Super Juice Ingredients: 1 whole cucumber 4 sticks of celery 2-4 handfuls of spinach 8 lettuce leaves Optional boosters: parsley and fresh alfalfa sprouts Water
Healing Juice Ingredients: 3-4 Carrots 125g Fresh Spinach Handful of Flat Leaf Parsley 2-3 Sticks of Celery Water
Blood Builder (Iron-enriched) Ingredients: 2 bunches Grapes 6 Oranges 8 Lemons peeled 1/4 cup Honey Water
Ginger/Lemon Cleanse Ingredients: 1-inch slice Fresh Ginger Root 1 Fresh Lemon 6 Carrots with tops Apple Water
Stomach Cleanser Ingredients: 1 bunch Grapes 1 basket Strawberries 3 Apples 4 sprigs Fresh Mint Water
Constipation Cure Ingredients: 1 firm Papaya 1/4-inch slice Ginger Root 1 Pear Water
Skin Cleanse Ingredients: 1 Cucumber with skin 1/2 bunch Fresh Parsley 1 4-oz. tub Alfalfa Sprouts 4 Sprigs Fresh Mint Water

Interesting you posted this now, I actually was asking my trainer this week about a cleansing diet, which is sort of like juicing!

Thanks for these yummy recipes! I am definately going to try several of them!
I do a juice fast twice a year. I highly recommend it, if you are physically able to, that is....
A good book to read is the Detox Diet by Elson M. Haas MD. Or, the Master Cleanse book...but the Master Cleanse is really tough to follow. I didn't last a day on that one!

Very interesting. I used to do a juice fast every 6 months, but now that I am diabetic it is hard to do. Hmmmm, I wonder if I could do a short one? THis time of year is the best for them I think. Kristi

Very interesting. I used to do a juice fast every 6 months, but now that I am diabetic it is hard to do. Hmmmm, I wonder if I could do a short one? THis time of year is the best for them I think. Kristi Yes, Kristi, Springtime is the best time to detox....between March 10 and April 15, for 7-21 days, so says Dr. Haas. However, he also says that diabetics can indeed do a detox, (with solid food, that is) as long as calories are consumed every 2-3 hours. Juice fasting with high sugar juices (apple, orange, and carrot) is not recommended. He says to include supplements of blue green algae, protein powders, chromium, vanadium, adrenal glandular, B vitamins, and vitamin C. Juice cleansing with diabetes needs to be done with caution, (especially with insulin dependence) and with an experienced medical guide. The above info I took directly out of his book. If you do decide to proceed with a detox, Kristi, be extremely careful, and skip the juice fast. Do it with veggies and fruits...he's got several plans outlined in his book. Do your homework before starting, and handle with care!

Haas says,"In the yearly cycle, seasonal changes are key times of stress when we may need to reduce our outer demands and consumptions, and listen to the way our inner world mirrors the natural events. Spring and autumn are good times for detoxification." And he goes on to say that cleansing is only for people who are in good physical health, who haven't had or are not going to have surgery, and those who don't have serious medical conditions, such as, but not limited to, underweight issues, circulation problems, heart conditions, extreme fatigue, etc. I think that spring, being a time of renewal, is a great time to "clean house." Don't you? Having said all that, my personal experience with juice fasting has been great. Once you get past the first few days, you achieve what they call "abdominal peace," and it is just like it sounds...at least for me it was. I've had some pretty awful IBS issues, so "abdominal peace" was as welcome as the daisies in spring!!!! I felt so much cleaner, abdominal bloating, diarrhea and constipation was gone, my skin even changed for the better, and it was so liberating to be free of the cravings for junk and processed foods. I can see how fasting can be a spiritual event for some people. So, Star, let us know how it works out for you.

Oh, one who hasnt had surgery, like how far back I wonder? I am going to read the book and I see my dr this week so I am going to talk to him about it also. He has been monitoring all that for me since I gained a little weight after surgery, but I have taken that plus a little off in the last couple months.... So I will for sure educate myself on it before I do it... Other then the surgery I am in pretty good health though.
My neighbor brought up fasting to me yesterday too! What is so funny and I got the biggest goosebumps when I talked to her about it,,, her and I are getting closer,, she is very spiritual,, she is Hindu and I am learning a lot about that religion from her and showing her Reiki,,, its kind of a nice relationship... I have actually told her about this forum and everyone,,, she is like us, always wanting to learn and grow, its cool having someone so close like that! Anyhow she was talking about doing a spiritual fasting, something Hindu call a Navrtri Fest to Shakti,,, It lasts 9 days only,, I dont know how long the fasting from Haas lasts but I am going to read about that too and maybe do that one with her. She said it is very cool when two people do it together because you do other things then just the fasting with food, like you meditate and say a mantra using a mala... So I am really interested in this fasting stuff,,, and gosh did I ever get goosebumps when her and I were talking about it!

Star...Sorry, been away from the 'puter for a few days...The surgery thing, I think is someone who has recently had surgery, like someone who is still very much in the physical healing stage. I would think if you gave yourself 8 weeks or so after surgery, you would be fine. You are most likely well out of the woods. Kristi and everyone else planning to read the book....I wish you the best. Y'all have inspired me to get back on the veggie wagon. Thankyou!
