Today is one of my favorite days of the Winter Holiday season. Today, I take my son on our traditional "Tacky Lights Tour." We load up on candy canes, hop in the car and drive all over town to view the holiday lights. Where I live, they really go crazy with the multicolored lights! Then we come home, turn off all the lights in the liviingroom (except the Christmas tree and other holiday related lights) and we sit and sip hot cocoa....the good stuff, not that icky powdered yuk that you mix with hot water.
It's a custom we started when we moved to Virginia six years ago, when my son was 12. Now he's all(most) grown up, but would not have winter without our "Tacky Lights Tour."
Any of you do the same?

Oh yes! I do that too! I used to love doing it as a kid too. Jon and I still drive around the area to look at the lights and as you say, some of them are just tacky! lmao

AH! My husband and I did this just a few hours ago. Well we will be on our way somewhere or back home and will detour to look at lights...
One house in particular we check each year just to see what new Tacky or ridiculous thing they've added!
It's this house lite with multicolored lights that would look cute as they have the whole house decorated like a ginger bread house, then pan to the rest of the yard that looks like someone threw up multi colored lights on every tree, bush and fence post in the yard. Not to mention all this yard stuff they have...BLUCK!
It's like a scene from a bad Christmas movie or something.
Some of the houses are so nice to look at though. That's fun!

WELL, I live with a decedent of Scrouge. But when I lived by myself, before injury, we used to make a tree in our front yard. All the light were tacked to the ground and all came to a point on the roof (a ranch) and I had 2 pine trees and we decorated them with colored lights. It look so pretty and didn't take much time.
Sara and I will go somewhere needed then go the wrong way home to see the lights. You know if you see one house decorated well, the house across the street has to outdo them and it usually goes on and on down the street. But the other day I saw all the blowup things you see in the store, well there were most of them in this person's yard. They had so many, the were decorating into their back yard. I went around the block so I could see everything. I think I should go back and see what it looks like at night.
The Columbus Zoo always has a HUGE light show. The last time we went there were ice sculptors in competetion and that was really cool. But when you walk into the zoo, everywhere you look is covered with lights. It is so hard to explain and going down all the trails theres all kinds of other decorations. It is wasn't so cold, we would go, but I'm not much of a cold weather person.
Silly right, I live in Ohio. I think I've asked this before, no any homes available in Florida??? or even Mississippi?
I'm so glad you have a tradition like that. It sounds so heartwarming and the cocoa sounds wonderful. I haven't had the real stuff, well I can't remember.

I forgot to add, we are so board here, radio stations and new stations pick the best and the worst decorated homes. And some people go all out in a very tasteful way.
Hey Cow Town, what do you want. We are tired of tipping cows

That works for me too. But I would like to have a little something outside, even a bow on the door.

Yeah, Tacky is great, but there's something to be said for tasteful and elegant, as well! Me, I need a good dose of both
