I said goodbye to an old friend today. My pride an joy, my '67 Mustang, was traded for a brand new car. It was a very hard decision to make, as I love my car, but she was getting to the point where I would have to spend some serious cash on her to keep her going. Next week I would have had her for 6 years.
I won't deny having watery eyes as she was driven off by someone else, and I realised I'd probably never see her again. I know alot of people see cars as objects, but my old gal had personality and uniqueness. There just isn't many of these cars down under. At least I was the proud owner of one before I was 30, a feat not often seen here.
I'll miss her, but I now have the first brand new car I've ever had. Maybe when I get rich, I'll track her down and buy it back.
Anyway, I know this won't interest alot of you and I'm not asking that it does. I just had to write out my feelings.
So long, old friend. You'll be missed!
Thanks girls, Nate

Oh, poor Nate. It's always hard to let go of things sometimes, this isn't any different. Just try to enjoy your new car and maybe you will get the chance to get her back sometime down the road! ~hugs and stuff~

Nate,
This is so sad. I think we definitely have relationships with certain "machines"--I know a lot of friends who Reiki their cars.
I personally have never owned a car, living in the city most of my adult life, but my boyfriend has one and I know it is a really big deal to him.
I hope the new owner appreciates your Mustang and that something equally good or better is on the horizon for you.
Blessings, Christine

Nate, I too have had tears in my eyes when a car was driven off by someone else. It seems as the paper work is going on, you don't get the wave of emotion when is it is driven off. Change is a part of life and sometimes it is painful, but you are taking another step.

Nate, I totally get it. I have cried over trading in a car before, too. Congrats on the new one though, I'll bet you fall in love with it, too! Kristi

My husband used to have a 1968 Mustang. When he sold it, he said the same thing-that he felt like he was losing an old friend. Fay

Oh, absolutely I get it! I get that way over ordinary cars because there are memories and things they've gotten you through. Yours was more than ordinary, so I'm sure it's that much more difficult. What did you buy?

Nate, I can totally relate to your emotional attachment to your car. I have named every car I have ever owned.... Ido Jr, White Slug, Ruby, Redmond, Pearl, and now Charlotte. Cars are people too, I always say. They are there for us (usually) when we need them, and we rely so heavily on them. No wonder some of us treat them like actual members of the family. I know I do.
Sorry to hear about your loss. I hope your new vehicle gives you as much pleasure as your Mustang. Did you name your new car yet?

Awww Nate, I understand what you mean, I think we get emotional attachments to certain non-living things sometimes.... I have not felt that way about a car but I have felt that way about certain rocks and other things I have had for a long time. I think it was just insitlled in my head by my hippy-dad that cars are just hunks of metal so I havent felt emotional about a car but for sure other things.
So what kind of new baby did ya get? Do they make care in Australia or are they all imported?
((((hugs))))) and love to you my sweet!

I basically traded the Mustang for a brand new local built Ford Falcon, one of Australia's iconic cars.
