I have heard about them, but I don't know much at all. Perhaps it was a mention in another book

Have you read/listened to "Finding your Sacred Contract" by Carolynn Myss? I have been listening to it lately, someone gave me a recording of her presenting this somewhere and does it ever ring true.

Carl Jung I have studied before. It was part of my studies as a counsellor actually. You're going to have me drag out my old school books aren't you!?! teehee K then, here we go. Carl Jung (1875-1961), a Swiss psychoanalyst, was a major contributor to the field of analytical psychotherapy. He was an innovative, creative practitioner and a bold thinker. The son of a minister, during her formative years Jung experienced a great deal of confusion as a to modern German theology and religion. This struggle led to her interest in psychology. In 1900, Jung received her medical degree from Basel University. He was influenced by Freud, who appointed him the first president of the International Psychoanalytic Association. Their parting of ways took place after the publication of Jung's back Symbols of Transformation (1911). In addition to being a medical doctor and a psychiatrist, Jung was also a painter, cook, sailor, stonemason, and dreamer. Throughout his life he studied religion, mythology, philosophy, and mysticism, in a dozen languages. Both counseling and the role of the professional counselor are enhanced by Jung's spiritual philosophy, with it's reference to a higher power and its belief in the importance of meaningfulness as a quest for humankind. Carl Jung incorporated a definitive spiritual component to his philosophy of psychoanalysis. He attempts to address the spiritual dimension of counseling with mind, body and spirit. His spirit component enhances the concept of holism in counseling. In his philosophy the unconscious and conscious are two complementary components of the psyche. He defined the healthy human personality as one that has achieved a balance between the conscious and unconscious, between interior and exterior life. Archetypes The collective unconscious is connected to the individual psyche through archetypes. An archetype is a definite potential within the indiviual; it is activated by the experience of that person's life. We may visualize archetypes as universal designs we receive from the collective unconscious;these archetypes are activated by our individual experience. Jung named some of these archetypes. For example, Kaufmann (1989) explains that the persona is the archetype of adaptation, which mediates the inner psyche and outside world (Jungs mind map). The shadow archetype Jung described as that part of ourselves we do not like. We may see a characteristic in others that we dislike; but, without realizing it, we also have this trait. Another archetype Jung named was that of self, which he believed to be the true individual's expression of meaning of life. This may be illustrated by the artist whose true self is realized through pursuit of and participation in the creative process.
Ok that is just a small sample of some of the information I have of Carl Jung. If you want me to write and summarize some more I will. Just let me know. I just didn't want to bore anyone!

Very cool info Sloan.... Thanks for sharing, and what are your thoughts on the Archetypes? I actually bought these cards from Carolyn Myss a few years ago, there are 80 of them, and so they are a little daunting to learn,,, so I didnt mess with them much. I actually considered putting them in the traveling box but something told me not to. Anyhow I listened to the Sacred Contracts talk a little bit ago by Carolyn Myss and started playing with them,, its like a 8 or 6 hour talk so its a lot to take in... I really enjoyed it though, even though a lot of it was stuff I knew already, she just put it in her words.... Recently though I got her talk on the Archetypes,,, oh my its 12+ hours long and she goes through all of the familes of archetypes and explained a LOT of what I needed to work with the cards. I actually really love the cards now. They are so interesting because they arent like fortune telling-ish but more like looking at yourself from a deeper perspective and if you are open to it,,, you can really grow with that information. I plan on getting through this talk with her and I am going to ask you guys to let me practice on you, I think this is something I would like to get good at and offer as a unique kind of reading I do for people. I love reading for people, but when it involves them spiritually growing, I love that so much more then just the day to day fortune telling type stuff.... I dont know as much about Carl Jung, I havent read any books by him, but I have read quite a bit on the net. Got any book suggestions? I just love this forum, I can bring up any topic and get feedback from others with it,,, not everyone in my physical life is like that... Thanks everyone for just being you!
