I was attuned to Reiki I on the 21st January. Before the attunement you could feel the energy within the group rising. I suddenly had to cough a lot to remove some phlegm, as it was hindering my speaking and the class were all sharing their thoughts with one another. I told the teacher I was not normally like this! She said "you wait, later everyone will be the same, it's an effect of the reiki energy" When I was attuned I felt the energy immediately and the class had to practice on eachother. I had reports that heat was felt from my hands in certain parts of some people's bodies, or others said that they felt a tingling sensation. I was really brimming with confidence, and pledged to myself to self-reiki every day without fail. Sometimes I noticed I had a buzzing sensation in the palm of my left hand, which made me think "keep this up, and you'll be more balanced as a result". I also didn't believe I would have any healing crisis or whatever as I had read that this was a myth, but at first I had something up with my digestive system (I'm sure you don't want me to expand on that!) which righted itself within 12 hours, and then I realised I was experiencing sinus trouble, which has continued to today. I've kept up the morning self-reiki sessions (except today, I was very tired on waking and slept in! But I will take time out later to practice) but as time passes I am increasingly feel my confidence is slipping. I don't seem to connect as readily when I want to sit and relax with reiki. I am also not getting any sensation in my hands, maybe this is because I have not treated anyone other than myself and I am getting lazy? This is strange to me because I have worked with energies in my spiritual life for years. I want my connection to the Universal Power to deepen, not lessen! My teacher simply taught us to put hands together and 'ask' for the reiki and it will come. At the end we had to say 'thank you'. My personal practice has been more than that, and I sit and wait till I can 'feel' the energy rising, or rather forming in my solar plexus before I lay on my hands. I guess I am sharing all this because I could really do with some advice and maybe reassurance?

well, for me, sometimes i feel the energy more and other times less. i think that's the way of all things. you said you haven't been feeling well? that is another factor. health affects the flow of things as well. don't lose confidence, sweets. just keep up your practice. energy work doesn't always just burst out of us. sometimes it trickles. but it is the bursts that let you know what is possible and gives you a hint of what you are accomplishing. you'll be fine. ~big hugs~

Thank you so much aura, that means a lot to me. Very reassuring! Yes my sinuses have been really playing up, my breathing is so noisy! It seems to come and go but I feel fine in myself healthwise. Oo except yesterday I felt like I had been kicked in the back, possibly my kidneys going through a detox or something, because that is where I felt sore. Oh well, I must go with the flow and as you said, not worry if the energy doesn't seem so strong. I'm off to bed soon (early night for me! It's 22:20 here) and I am going to Reiki before I sleep. I had a wonderful sleep last time I did it at night! Great community here, you are all so inspiring and I am trying to come out of my shell a bit more! One of my problems, in 'real' life I have become accustomed to keeping my spiritual life to myself! Once anyone gets to know me truly they are usually pleasantly pleased at how open I am! That sounds like a contradiction but really it isn't. I sometimes wonder if that's why I sometimes feel blocked with the energy - because I somehow hold back out of habit. Ah well, at least I can conciously try not to and overcome that trait.

hey, gypsy, contradictions are my speciality. (gemini). lol. i hope you feel better real soon and surely feel free to open up here. believe me, i was a clamshell, myself, until i joined these great people here. i don't know what it was, but i knew i could share myself here and that's exactly what alot of us need. i was raised to 'keep these things secret', but this is a safe place, so i welcome you to open up. we're glad to have you and look forward to hearing all you have to offer. oh, and ya know what? i've found that the more i can share of myself, the more i grow. funny how that works. get some rest and get well, sweets! ~big hugs~

Gypsy, It sounds to me like you may be going through a physical "cleanse" as a result of your atunement. That is pretty common, I have been through several myself. Give your body time to adjust to your new higher frequency, send yourself Reiki daily, and you will be just fine. When I first started practicing Reiki I felt like I had to try really hard to feel the energy, make it flow, etc. This actually made the whole process harder, and I didn't feel the energy as strongly when I did that. Be sure you are relaxed and just open to whatever comes when you send Reiki. Aura is right, sometimes you feel it more strongly than others, but if you ask for it, it is always flowing, even if you don't feel it. I also think I have sort gotten used to the sensation of Reiki flowing from my hands, and don't feel it as acutely as I did when I was first attuned. It sounds like you are doing great, be gentle with yourself, practicing Reiki is a process that is different for everyone. Whatever you feel is right for you is ok. It's ok to feel the energy rise in yourself before you start Reiki, as you describe. There is no right or wrong way about it, you an call the Reiki in however feels good to you. You will find that over time you will modify what you have been taught to fit what works for you, and that is perfectly ok. At first treating yourself daily is a really good way to build your experience. I agree that sometimes you feel different sensations in your hands when you work on others. I think I actually feel less energy when I work on myself because I am used to what my own energy feels like, does that make sense? We are all happy to share our experience here. I am glad you found us! Kristi

Yes I agree with both of these ladies. It sounds perfectly natural to me and Kristi raises a great point that you may not feel the energy as strong working on yourself; like Kristi I feel less energy too. It seems to feel greater when I do reiki with others, my hands get really tingly and warm. Either way, keep up the reiki for yourself, it's good for you and keep your head up about it. It always works even when you think it might not be and we're always around too to talk about it, so please continue to share!

Hi Gypsy,,, it does sound like you are going through a detox of some sort. Sometimes we dont realize it until someone points it out, at least it has been my experience before. We have so much "baggage" for lack of a better word in our cell memory, that is not upfront but just pushed back there somewhere... Reiki brings those things up, weather they be physical, emotional, spiritual etc... But it will and does bring those things up and we process them and release them... Keep drinking a lot of fluids, you need that to keep yourself cleansed and yes, do reiki on yourself every day, even if you dont feel it, it is working.... I am glad you found us too, we are a friendly group so please try not to be shy... We have all learned and experienced so much by sharing with one another through the year(s) it just makes me (as well as many others here) feel at "home" and I hope you come to eventually feel that way with us also That said,,, ((((big hugs)))) Star

oh and i guess one of my best suggestions with reiki,, or really anything for that matter... is just keep an open mind.... some people feel strongly about some things and some are totally opposed to that very thing,,, just keep an open mind, observe, try it if you feel so inclined and if it works for you,,, keep it and own it,,, if not, then let it go....
there is so much one can tell you about how to do reiki, and someone different might have a totally different view, in my opinion, both are right even if they are opposing views, because reiki is interpreted and used in so many ways and fashions and so many thoughts and ideas are about it,,, just be open and use how you feel as a factor in what you incorporate into your practice....
i hope this helps,,,, please feel free to pick my or anyone elses heres brain, we tend to share the same brain usually anyhow lol ((hugs)) again,,,, i think we can never get enough of those hehee

Thanks ladies, all of you! Your words of wisdom truly resonate with me and you have all confirmed what I hoped you would. Thanks again! ANd thanks for all the hugs they are really appreciated, (((hugs))) back to all of you! I guess I was feeling downhearted and thinking too much on it - wondering whether my teacher had done her job well enough, when all along her approach is surely the best - start us all off and let us find our methods for ourselves. Last night's self-reiki session was wonderful. I didn't do what I was taught but simply opened to the energy, held my hands flat toward my heart (under breast) as I have seen in some diagrams (not taught this one) and asked for guidance, and to be shown somehow, dream, whatever my spirit guide, dropped off to sleep, awoke and placed hands on my solar plexus and sacral chakras, fell asleep again, really felt heavy and heady with it. When I finally roused again to roll on my side I told the Universe I was leaving myself open to be given whatever I needed, and slept really well until the phone rang at 3:30am (Yes indeed how odd) it was a call from a centre that handles step-mum-in-law's alarm when she presses it (she's disabled) to say she had fallen. Hubby had to go out and help her cos her own daughters were not answering their phones. She was fine by the way! I dropped off to sleep sending her reiki although I have not been taught distance yet. I awoke again at 5am when hubby's alarm went off. He goes to work for 6am, and he was home and downstairs cos he didn't come back to bed. We chatted for half an hour till he left, and when he came home at lunchtime today he told me he had noticed that after I spoke with him he felt really calm and happy about everything - I wondered whether it was because of the Reiki energy in the atmosphere around me. Does that make sense? Anyway I fell asleep again by about 6am and had strange dreams. I'm used to that but in one part I exclaimed to hubby "I think I just met my spirit guide!" although the odd thing was this 'guide' was someone who had just died and fallen on top of me in my dream! So time will tell whether I will be introduced to a guide or not, or whether this dream was truthful. Sorry to ramble on and on, it's just I am so excited tonight, lots of cool coincidences and manifestations have been occuring lately, many of which were today - and I just feel things are starting to come together for me. So thanks ladies for all your wise words and thank you all for everything that you share, you are truly wonderful! I look forward to rambling on at you all some more!

It does sound like you are doing great. As far as the hand positions, I have found that if I do what is comfortable with where I do place them, my intent feels a lot stronger. I'm sure others here will agree, as long as your intent is clear, where you put your hands doesn't really matter. I had a real problem and sometimes still do with self confidence in God, Universe, Source, or whatever you call it. But keep on keeping on and just go through the motions and it will come, but it does sound like you are well on your way.
Keep on keeping on.

Thanks lassies! Since posting that my sessions have been very short - I seem to fall asleep and it seems ages since I did a full 'session' as taught (y'know, 3 minutes here, 3 minutes there, about 9 different positions) but I agree Saffy it feels so much more natural to place them where it feels comfortable, quite apart from not having your elbows sticking out mid air, you can just relax much better this way. I'm off to bed now, to have my last minute self heal session Loving the new avatar aura!

Hi Gypsy, I'm just catching up on a lot of posts here... one thing that's important to remember is that Reiki always works regardless of whether you feel it. In time you will become more sensitive to the energy either physically feeling it, getting mental images, etc. Nothing can match the intensity of the attunement so it's normal that you would feel less after the class even though you may actually be channeling more Reiki than before. Attunements raise our bodies' vibrational level. It takes a while for the physical body to adjust to that jump in vibrational level. Until that adjustment takes place you can feel high, feel tons of energy or maybe even feel spacey. Eventually your physical body "catches up" to this new, higher vibrational state and it feels normal. So when you're doing Reiki on yourself it might not feel as intense as it did before, but that is in part because you are in the energy all the time--it's a good thing! Christine

Thanks Christine! I guess it's been partly because I regularly did energy work in my personal rituals for years before I was attuned and like you say that has all changed now with the Reiki I attunement, thanks for describing it the way you did - it makes perfect sense to me. I will continue to self heal each day safe in the knowledge that all is well

Last night I was going through some of my stones and looking up meanings. There a a few that help, but the 2 that jumped out at me were garnet and hemetite. They help you with confidence. I'm sure if you get a set of chakra stone, that may help with the Reiki. I thought about you when I was doing this...
Hope this helps more.....won't hurt right

Thanks Saffy Sorry I only just read what you wrote, thanks so much for thinking of me! I was wearing my chakra beads during attunement but haven't worn them since - silly of me really because I have been very much into my crystals lately. Yesterday was a Lapis Lazuli day lol I was reading up on it in the morning to remind myself and found out it is ideal for my mum (depression/thyroid trouble) - it's her birthday soon Enough of my rambling, anyway lol!
