Reiki Magic Guide To Self Attunement (Paperback) by Brett Bevell (Author)
Look this book up when you have a second.... I saw this book while on my honeymoon and I'm not sure what to make of it! It teaches people who have not been attuned to reiki how to self attune...
curious as to your thoughts.

Hmm, interesting... Diane Stein in Essential Reiki also speaks of self-attunement... Not sure how I feel about that... I suppose it is possible because after all who attuned Dr Usui and also when other modalities are given who attunes that person,,, I believe it is Spirit... So anything is possible right?

I'm picking that book up and reading it...I'm going to try the self attunement process it talks of and see what happens. I'll let you know...it really got my curiosity going!

That would be great, please do let us know. I've looked at the book myself and thought about getting it but kept putting it back on the shelf; even if I am still curious about it.

I think I have seen this book too or one similar and the author does say somewhere that it doesn't replace a regular reiki class with an attunement by a reiki master and that you shouldn't just do the self attunement and then start practicing Reiki professionally.
I had one Reiki student who had done a self attunement, I"m not sure if it was from this book or something similar. He did have a pretty amazing experience with it but still felt like he wanted to go on and take a Reiki class.
I often wonder why we need to receive attunements versus just chanelling the energy on our own...I think it's because Reiki is about our connection to others and the interconnectedness of all beings. I think we lose a lot of that in modern society where everyone is so do-it-yourself and fast-paced. Something about the connection to another being and the way we become that connection for someone else is significant.
Namaste, Christine

I used a book to attune myself initially 18 months ago. It is called "Heal Yourself with Reiki", and has guided imagery attunements. I did all three, and it felt very real to me, I have not felt the need to have more Usui attunements (I did just have the one Star gave, but that was more because I have felt out of balance) I have since been attuned to other forms of Reiki, but continue to use Usui. I think it just depends on what feels best to each person. I had been looking for an oppotunity to be attuned to Reiki for quite a while, and this book literally feel off the shelf at my feet at Barnes and Noble. It was after I completed the attunements in that book that I first met Star. Kristi

I think too there are plenty of people doing energy healing who weren't "attuned" to anything and it's totally effective. My grandmother and her family did hands on healing and were not at all familiar with attunements (given through self or through a teacher). We don't really have the words to describe what's happening in energy work, at least not right now in the western world. When I think of an attunement, I think of an energy transmission through another person. But what you're describing Kristi is certainly real and powerful. To me that sounds like another way of connecting with Spirit directly, and totally effective. I guess for me I wish there were another name for it than attunement since I feel like that's a different way of getting the energy, and as a teacher I feel like that can be kind of confusing for students. I just wanted you to know I wasn't dissing this way of receiving the energy by any means And this book also fell off the shelf at me in the store so maybe I need to check it out Christine

I just finished reading this book today and it is an amazing addition to any healers library. Even thoe I didn't use the self attunement in this book I have tried a few of the alternate "Non-Traditional Reiki" techniques in it, all with very good results.
This year I have the opportunity to work personally with Brett at The Omega Institute for Holistic Studies in Rhinebeck, NY from a few weeks ago till the end of October and I do have to say that he is an amazing healer and a wonderful teacher. I Highly recommend this book for anyone interested in the healing arts.
Namaste! Dave

I became attuned to reiki before I knew the word or the concept.
