I have been sooooooooooo bad about not doing yoga lately! I am getting back into a morning and night practice. It's so easy to get out of practice! I have started with a good sun salute series and some hip openers and a good long relaxation. ;DAnyone getting back into yoga? :DAnyone been good and kept up your practice?

I too have slacked, you know after surgery it was like everything came to a screeching halt... I am working on getting back into the routine though... I used to do power yoga at the gym 2 times a week, the hard level (level 3) before surgery, and then some sun salutations and other hatha yoga at night,,, but I havent done that since September...
I have gone to a power yoga class at the gym twice in Dec... only level 1 though, need to work back up to the hard stuff! I have actually been thinking about getting some of my Yee DVD's out and doing some with him this weekend though... I need to get back into that too, I am finally starting to feel like I am getting my strength back up again,,, I had no idea it was going to knock me back as far as it did,,, but I keep plugging!
Other then sun salutations, what else do you do?
(((hugs))) thanks for bringing this back up I think Rodney Yee and I may have a date later on hehe

lol................I love Rodney Yee! Recently I downloaded a yoga podcast that is all different kinds of 20 minute routines. My hips have been stiff so I have be doing a bunch of hip openers. I also love all the warrior poses and triangle poses. I have been practicing holding down dog for at least 60 seconds at a time. Kristi

Oh, have you done his Yoga for Energy video? I LOVEE the second sequence on that video, he does the triangle, warrior poses, reverse triangle and some others like it,,, sometimes I just do that sequence, I love the music they use and he does it with someone else,,, its my favorite dvd by him! You know what gets me more then downward dog is holding plank,,, that alone is a work out lol... I love it though,,, I cant wait for Thursday when I go back to the power yoga class at the gym, we usually practice a sequence of childs pose, chaturanga, cobra, plank, down dog and back to childs pose... we do that like 10 times then stop and hold plank for a count of 10, thats like part of our warm up after sun salutations,, I tell you by the end of that I am usually working up a sweat!

You gals are so speaking in a foreign language here! Wow. So Rodney Yee is the person I should be looking for on DVD though if I get into yoga? There are no classes around here to take unfortunately, unless you're military and can go on the base...so I'm not and that's out...sigh...

I haven't done that one, I better look for it. He is amazing! Sloan I do most of my yoga at home. A beginner DVD is a great way to start, and eventually you can develop a routine that works for you. Kristi

Sloan I would suggest AM/PM Yoga with Rodney Yee and Patricia Walden, (I think thats her last name, now I forget,,, if you look you will find it)
I took yoga classes in my late teens/early 20's but then I just got videos. and books. Now I do it at the gym, I do the power stuff,,, they have a freeform hatha class now but I haven't made it to one of them... Once you get the poses though you can pretty much do what you want but there are certain sequences like the sun or moon salutations that you might just like to incorporate into your day.
I love the DVD I was talking about because it is separated into different sequences that are 10-15 minutes or so long each and each one of them incorporates different poses to represent the day and how you feel, so essentially as you do the DVD you are going through your day, or you can stop between sequences and do the parts as the day progresses. Rodney Yee is great, in the DVD they do like stretching in the morning sequence, energy sequence, creativity sequence, reflection etc... I cant remember them all off hand, or what order they are in but you get the drift... I wouldnt suggest that DVD to start though because you need to know how to do those poses before you do that DVD because he does not explain how to do them as you go along like he does in other DVD's, rather he just says, Down dog, plank, childs pose, cobra, etc... as you do them, and has some cool music to it...
It's not hard to learn the poses, just start with the AM/PM if you do... Thats my suggestion anyhow. That one is great because it gives you two routines, one for the am and one for the pm and they are about 15 minutes each,,, who cant spare that much time for their health, you know?

This is the sun salutations Sloanie.... But read about it or watch a video cause the instructor will tell you specific places to hold and stuff to do, and this little dude drank a lot of coffee before starting lol

man, am i late or what? lol. i need to get back into my routine, actually. i have been a little lax lately, now i'm starting again. i started several years ago with a video. now, of course, i memorized the routine and love it, but i tend to fall out of practice for a month or few at a time, then get back into it. i guess that's my terrible routine. lol.
