I know I have talked abouy my giant watermelon plant before to all of you... Today it gave me the BEST surprise, the dang thing is so huge I had no idea I had a watermelon ALMOST the size of a basketball growing in it. It is only one plant too... I was just out there wondering when it was going to sprout something, and pulled a few weeds to find this yummie hiding below!
seriously though this is the patch,,, can you pick out where the little bugger was sleeping?
and a wide angle of the patch... YES that is ALL watermelon!
Heres a wider view of the rest of the garden, as you can see the pineapples to the right are growing along... And yes, that plant all around the pineapples is the ONE watermelon plant that is growing!
and since I have your attention,,, here is a better pic of the majority of the pineapple plantation,,, I can NOT wait for them to get tiny pineapples on them, the larger ones are about a year old, they should have fruit ready to pick in another year, so I assume another 6 months or so they will start having little pinapples on them...
I am so tickled today to have found that watermelon,,, I sooo miss gardening and this just sparked that longing back up in me... I know we are backwards in South Florida from the rest of the world, we garden mostly in the wintertime and this is really my first attempt at seriously trying something in the summer so I am just tickled it worked! I cant wait for next year, I will have to remember this and grow more then one watermelon plant!
((hugs))
