Here are a few tips on being green in the bathroom....
Feel free to add your own, I am always looking for ways to be more earth friendly! (((hugs)))
1. If you dont have a water conserving toilet you can place one or two full plastic water bottles in the toilet tank to displace water flushed. I would suggest doing one then flushing and then if necessary and you have the room do a second bottle. Each time you flush you will save as much water as is in those plastic containers. That adds up!
2. Turn off the water when brushing your teeth.
3. Take shorter showers. Ladies shave your legs sitting on the side of the tub with the only a little bit of water in the tub to use while shaving, THEN take your shower. Shaving and showering uses up a lot of unnecessary water. Showers consume about 1/5 of the indoor water use, so keep that in mind when showering!
4. Buy a water conserving shower head, some non-conserving shower heads used up to 5 gallons every minute!
5. Report tap leaks in public building, IE work, or stores you go into and fix leaks in your own home. It may drip only a little but that drip adds up.
6. Guys turn off the water while shaving at the bathroom sink, running the water at the bathroom sink for two minutes can waste up to 3 gallons of water.
7. Buy a good shower curtain that will outlast the cheap plastic ones; a shower curtain made of hemp will naturally resist mildew and is machine washable.
8. Use a strainer on all the drains to catch hair and prevent clogs. It you get a clog use a metal snake to work the clog loose (available at hardware stores for like $12) dont use toxic drain cleaners.
9. Even though a hemp curtain is preferable and most durable to use, if you have a mildew resistant vinyl one then you can take these steps to get the longest life out of them...
10. To fix slow drains, pour half a cup of baking soda down the drain and follow it with half a cup of white vinegar. Let it sit for 20 minutes to half hour then pour boiling water down the drain, about 2 quarts.

- Stretch the curtain closed completely after a shower to eliminate folds where moisture cant evaporate easily.
- Open the bathroom door and a window, if you can, after exiting the shower to release the steam
- Run the exhaust fan for 5 minutes following the shower
