Passages can be read for inspiration on your own personal journey, or can even be memorized for use in passage meditation, a path of spiritual growth and discipline practiced for many centuries. In this mode of meditation, one trusts the inspired passage to be the seed of the spiritual experience attained by its author. By memorizing and continually repeating its words silently in the mind, the meditator gradually absorbs this experience. Eventually, passage meditation slows and even stills the mind, and then one perceives what lies in the space between thoughts. When your mind becomes thus stilled, abiding in this interstice between thoughts, a sudden flash can illumine our nature and show you who you really are and have always been. Try Kapalabhati ("skull shining") to clear your mind. Inhale slowly and smoothly, then exhale, contracting your abdominal muscles sharply, raising the diaphragm, and forcing the air out. Inhale and relax the muscles, allowing the lungs to fill with air. Then exhale again sharply. Repeat this 20 times: inhale slowly and smoothly, then exhale, contracting your abdominal muscles sharply, raising the diaphragm, and forcing the air out. Then inhale and exhale the same way but now hold your breath between the inhalation and exhalation for as long as you can. Again, repeat 20 times. The exhalation should be short and active, the inhalation long and passive, something like inhale to a count of eight and exhale to a count of one. [/glow]

Wow, this hits home today. Wish I would have read this sooner. I was not feeling well yesterday and ate a bowl of cereal and that's it. Today I am really hungry. For lunch, I had a nice sandwich and wanted something sweet. Instead of opting for fruit, I ate a piece of cake. I got half way through this and didn't want it anymore, but I didn't think about it. Now, I feel a little "bad".
Thanks for the reminder. I generally choose well, and I will continue for the remainder of the day.
Fairy dust all of me..right

[glow=red,2,300]Do standing meditation while waiting in line for a movie or bus or train. Just stand there, breathe, and awaken. Work within your own mind. [/glow]

I have done that before but I guess never really thought about it. That doesn't mean I'm not really doing it, right.

Yea I hear California is bad with traffic... Florida is not great,,, but if you go at the times when people are working its not too bad... The same place can be backed up 3 or 4 lights that you just breeze on through after rush hour,,, so weird,,, glad i dont work out of the home!

sorry, ya'll. i've been so busy that i've forgotten to post the daily meditations. oopsie! okies, here we are.....
[glow=red,2,300]A tense-to-relax exercise can be done invisibly wherever you are or you can lay down to do it. It is similar to a relaxation meditation, only you want to tense the muscles first, then relax them. Draw upon orange in your meditation if you want to break down barriers, discover enthusiasm within yourself, and get more fun out of life. [/glow]

Wow...I used to do this as a teenager to relax at night. Then after the kids and I forgot all about it. It is one awesome way to relax. Thanks for sharing again, Aura.

I really have problems relaxing my muscles ....I'm tense constantly....I notice it and have to MAKE myself loosen up.I think it has to do with my Fibromyalgia.I'm going to try this.

[glow=red,2,300]When practicing outer presence or flow, try stating a specific goal out loud such as, "While washing the dishes, I am going to focus on the sound of the water and the dishes being scrubbed." That will help you to know what to go back to when you get lost in your thoughts. Aim at maintaining the posture of zazen with your flesh and bones, letting go of thoughts. During zazen, we open the hand of thought that is trying to grasp something and simply refrain from grasping. This is letting go of thoughts. [/glow]
