hmm my first thought was peacock ore too but I'd agree Aura that it's not metallic enough....hmmm and it doesn't look like it has enough black in it to be charoite....but you are so right it's really pretty. Do you actually own this piece Kristi?

Ok, I have thought about it and thought about it,,, and if I am right it is only because I have been on a quest to learn about the purple stones lately cause Nikki asked for a purple necklace.... Is it sugilite?

Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding!!!!! Way to go Star, it is Sugilite.
From metastones.com: Sugilite Information
Sugilite has been called the stone of this New Age. A Professor Sugi after whom it was later named made the first recorded discovery of Sugilite in Japan in 1944. It was not until 1975 that it was discovered in significant quantities in South Africa near a small town called Hotazel with says it all about the climate in that area. It came in the form of a thin band running through strata in Manganese mine. It was not until 1979 that it was found in any significant quantity when the depth of this mine had reached over 3000 feet. This discovery yielded about 10 000 lbs of quality Sugilite. Most of the original find has now been mined and there have since only been a few, much smaller finds.
This has resulted in quality Sugilite becoming a semi-rare item on the market. We are blessed to live in South Africa and have contacts that actually go and seek out quality Sugilite from this source.
USES
This wonderful stone is a great balancer of mind, body and spirit. It encourages peace of mind, a general feeling of well being and spiritual love. It brings and centers spiritual light into the body and draws out both physical and emotional pain. It seems to protect against, absorb and dissipate anger, hurt and other unwanted negative energies. It is truly a nurturing and balancing stone at all levels.
Sugilite is highly regarded for its healing properties and has been recommended for as helpful for a wide variety of dis-ease from immune deficiency to addiction.
I only have to put a piece with a reasonably high manganese content on my brow and visualize it drawing the pain to remove a persistent headache in seconds.
As you can probably tell I love this stone and wear it frequently in rough, freeform or cabochon. Not only do I get the benefits that Sugilite offers but also a lot of compliments because it is such a beautiful stone and makes a very attractive item of jewelry.

I have a very small piece of Sugilite, but hope to get more. It is kind of expensive, and not so easy to come by. Kristi

How very interesting that you like this stone so much,,, Nikki is also a Sag and when I was reading about the properties of this stone I was like, this one is really good for her. Honestly it was either sugilite or chaorite... I dont have either of those stones but eBay is only a click away hehe... I made her a fluorite anklet because she asked for something to help her be motivated and more organized and I use fluorite for both of those things,,, and its working.... So she thought ok make a necklace for me but you choose what I need it for... She loves purple and she can stand to connect more with the spiritual side of life,,, I mean she is,, just it would be nice to improve that so thats why I thought sugilite would be good....
Very cool,,, thanks Kristi,,, this makes me think even more about this stone!!!
Ok guess its my turn,,, hmmmmmm will have to figure out a good one! hehe
